Want to be a beta tester?

I have a few new apps coming up, and improvements for the existing ones.

The next app in line is related to VLC Remote – and I’m looking for beta testers.

If you are keen to try new things and let me know what you think, what works and what could be improved – then you might want to be a beta tester. You’ll have to be willing to use buggy software and let me know in careful detail what steps you took to cause problems.

It isn’t for everybody – but if you’d like to help steer my apps, then it might be for you.

If I could, then I’d let anyone who was interested be a tester – however Apple severely limits the number of testers I can have.

This means I’ll have to be picky. I tend to release lots of test versions in a row – so I’m keen to find people who will be able to test and respond quickly during the occasional flurries of testing.

I’ll also be looking for a variety of i-devices, and operating systems.

If you’d like to help then please send me:

1) what kind of i-devices you have, and what the uuid’s are for them (Google uuid if you don’t know what that is)
2) what operating system(s) you will be testing on
3) why you’ll be a great beta tester!

thank you!

iBrowse – Updated

Hi,

iBrowse is my new browser. It just got even better.

You can now open a page, then switch to opening links in background tabs. This means you can do a search on Google and open multiple results at once, or go to the front page of a news site and open all the stories you want to read.

-Also included are 100% fullscreen browsing
-Turbo mode (just like fast web)
-Block images (also saves bandwidth)
-Private browsing
-and much more!

Have a look at the linked video to see it in action…

Remote Off : Turn off your computer when you are done…

After I released VLC remote, a bunch of users asked me to add an ability for them to turn off the computer when they had finished watching shows.

So, I built Off Remote. It lets you turn off your Windows or Mac computer from your iPhone.

(Parents have also pointed out to me that it lets them check whether their kids have turned off their computers!)

Whether you use it to turn off your computers at night, or after watching shows – it makes life a little easier and saves a bit of energy!

Beta: New Off Helper for Windows

I recently released a new version of the Off Helper.

It runs as a service rather than an application, so this means it still works when the computer is logged out, or locked.

Because it starts up differently, it will hopefully fix issues where the helper doesn’t automatically startup.

You can get the new version at http://hobbyistsoftware.com/OffSetup

It is a beta, so although we have tested it, there may be problems with some setups. Please let me know ( rob@hobbyistsoftware.com ) if there are problems so that I can fix them, and equally let me know if it works well so that I can move it out of beta!

Thanks.

Available for iPad too…

Update: VLC Remote is now a universal app. This means it works brilliantly on both iPad and iPhone.

Hi Folks,

VLC Remote now has an iPad version too. It has much the same functionality as the iPhone version – but makes use of the bigger screen and the different interaction approaches.

It took quite a bit of work to build, so I’m selling it as a separate application. -Though of course you can still use your iPhone version on the iPad if you prefer.

I hope you like it!

One for your Android friends…

Some folks use Android Phones!

I just released a version of VLC Remote for Android so that they can get the same control as iPhone and Pre users have already.

It’s tough to break into a new platform, so please do help me spread the word!

Details are available at www.HobbyistSoftware.com or you can click here to send a download link to your Android Device.

As with the iPhone and the Pre, there is even a free version with limited features for them to try out!

Thank you.

Translate Me!

I added a bunch of new features recently, and that means that a lot of the strings are not translated into your language.

The answer is simple – log in to AppTranslate.com and update the translations!

Users have translated VLC remote into 15 languages, but you can update those translations, improve them, or add new languages altogether!

Thanks in advance,

Rob
